5 people drown after boat capsizes Zambia

Xinhua, March 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Five people have drowned on a lake in Zambia's Mansa district in Luapula Province, north of the country after a boat they were in capsized, the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS) said on Sunday.

The five, members of the same family including a one-year six- months-old baby, drowned on Lake Bangweulu after the boat capsized on Saturday evening due to overloading and bad weather, the provincial police commanding officer Webby Shula was quoted as saying.

The police chief said the police managed to retrieve four of the bodies while one is still missing.

The police have since advised people using water transport to desist from overloading their boats as most of the accidents on water were due to over-loading. Endi
