Detained Chinese wait to be released by Russian customs

Xinhua, March 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

The last three Chinese passengers detained for alleged drug trafficking are waiting for their release at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport, the Chinese Embassy said Saturday.

Russia started to release the detained Chinese workers following thorough security check of each piece of their luggage.

So far, only three workers still remain detained, according to the latest information released at noon Moscow time (0900 GMT).

Officials of the Chinese Embassy are also providing necessary assistance at the airport.

More than 30 Chinese were detained Thursday upon arrival for bringing food materials which Russian Customs officials believed to be methamphetamine.

The embassy confirmed earlier that the so-called methamphetamine turned out to be bittern, a kind of material used to make tofu.

Russian Customs Service claimed Friday that 34 Chinese citizens were detained after 230 kg of the methamphetamine-like substance was found in their luggage. Endi
