Indonesia may delay execution of drug convicts by week: official

Xinhua, March 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The execution of 10 persons convicted on drug offense may not occurred this week as the preparation has not been ready, an official said here on Friday.

Preparations at the location of the execution on Nusakambangan island of Central Java have not been fully prepared and some convicts undergo legal process, said Tony Spontana, spokesman for the attorney general office.

"I am certain that (the execution) could not be done this week, (as) we are certain that the facility and preparation have not been ready 100 percent," said the official.

He said nine of the 10 convicts have been transferred to the island, while the remaining one, a Philippine national, is still undergoing the process of judicial review at a court in Yogyakarta.

The convicts also include two Australians, one Brazilian, three Nigerians, one each from France, Ghana and Indonesia.

The Australians Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were transferred to the island this week. Endi
