A special envoy from Kazakhstan arrived in Latvia on Thursday to seek Latvia's support for Kazakhstan bid in the 2016 election of the United Nations Security Council, the Latvian Foreign Ministry reported.

Ikram Adyrbekov, Chairman of the International Relations, Defense and Security Committee at the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan and Kazakh President's Special Envoy for the promotion of Kazakhstan's candidacy for the UN Security Council, met with Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics on Thursday and told him about Kazakhstan's involvement in UN activities, the ministry said.

Adyrbekov presented Rinkevics a letter, addressed to Latvian President Andris Berzins and containing a request to support Kazakhstan's candidacy for the election to the UN Security Council in 2016 for the term from 2017 to 2018.

Adyrbekov and Rinkevics also discussed Kazakhstan-EU ties and bilateral relations between Latvia and Kazakhstan, cooperation in international organizations, as well as the UN Security Council's agenda. Endit
