Miquel Archanco, the former President of Spanish football club Osasuna, was arrested on Thursday in relation with supposed irregularities, involving match fixing alleged to have taken place at the end of last season.
The former Vice-President of the club, Angel Vizcay and another former Director, Chuma Peralta, have also been detained over a question which saw 3.7 million euros (slightly over four million US dollars) disappear from club finds to supposedly fix games at the end of last season as Osasuna attempted to unsuccessfully avoid relegation from the BBVA Primera Liga to the Liga Adelante (second division).
Archando left his post as club President as a result of the relegation in June 2014 and the missing money was subsequently discovered and denounced by the current board, who ordered an audit to be carried out by the Football League (LFP).
Last Monday saw the auditors confirm supposed irregularities, confirming confession made by Vizcay in which he confirmed in a videotaped interview that Osasuna had tried to buy results. One of the games under investigation is a 1-1 draw between Osasuna and Espanyol in the penultimate game of last season, while games between Valladolid and Betis and the Osasuna - Betis game on the last day of the campaign are also thought to be under investigation.
