Senior Chinese leader proclaims bright economic prospects despite slowdown

Xinhua, March 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Senior Chinese leader Liu Yunshan on Thursday expressed confidence in China's slowing economy despite looming downward pressure on the world's second largest economy.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remark when joining a panel discussion with lawmakers from north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on a government work report delivered by Premier Li Keqiang earlier Thursday.

Noting that China has entered a "new normal" phase of slower economic growth, Liu urged authorities to view economic growth in a scientific manner, give priorities to economic quality and effectiveness, and remove growth barriers through reform and innovation.

Efforts should be made to identify potential opportunities for growth brought forth by the "new normal", he said, adding that the bright prospects for the Chinese economy should be further acclaimed.

Liu also asked Party and government officials to continue to free their minds and advance with the times in order to improve their capability in directing economic work in accordance with the law and properly handle complications. Endi
