Tokyo stocks rise 0.17 pct in morning

Tokyo stocks rose 0.17 percent in the morning session of Thursday.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 31.68 points, from Wednesday to 18,735.28.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 4.67 points, or 0.31 percent, to 1,521. 68.

Major gainers included mining, textile and apparel as well as pharmaceutical issues. Endi
