Update: Iran not to give in to pressures in nuclear talks: FM

Xinhua, March 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Iran will not surrender to the pressures and excessive demands of the West on its nuclear issue in the ongoing nuclear talks, Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said on Tuesday.

"We have entered the (ongoing nuclear) negotiations sincerely and will continue the talks to reach our nuclear rights. Iran will not give in to the excessive demands and illogical stance of the other party," Zarif was quoted as saying by official IRNA news agency.

The Iranian official rejected the existing sanctions by the West against the country as "oppressive and illegal," saying that "the policy of threats and sanctions is a failed policy."

"The threats and sanctions have never had any impact on the resolve of the Iranians over achieving 'peaceful' nuclear technology," the Iranian foreign minister said as Iran and the United States began the second day of bilateral talks over Tehran's nuclear program in the Swiss city of Montreux.

Iran and the six world powers (the U.S., Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany) will resume multilateral talks on Iran's long-standing nuclear issue in Montreux on Thursday.

Also on Tuesday, Zarif said the new round of negotiations between Iran and the world powers is an opportunity for immediate removal of sanctions against the country, according to Iran's Student News Agency. Endit
