Some nine Taliban militants were killed and eight others wounded as the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) pressed ahead with offensives in restive provinces, the Interior Ministry said on Tuesday.

"The ANSF operations were conducted in Herat, Farah, Ghazni, Helmand, Kunduz, Uruzgan, Paktika, Takhar, Sari Pul and Khost provinces over the past 24 hours. As a result nine armed Taliban members were killed, eight wounded and five others were arrested by the ANSF," the ministry said in a statement.

The ANSF also seized weapons and defused two roadside bombs planted by the militants over the same period, the statement said, without elaborating the casualties of the security forces.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments. Endit
