Xinhua, March 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

The R-rated crime caper "Focus" topped the North American weekend box office, kicking the two-weekend-winner "Fifty Shades Of Grey" out of the top spot.

"Focus" opened to an estimated 19.1 million U.S. dollars this weekend, identical to the debut of "Crazy, Stupid, Love." Although ranking in the bottom half of Smith's movies, "Focus" is still ahead of "Seven Pounds", whose opening in December was not satisfying. However, "Seven Pounds" wrapped up its run with 70 million dollars, a number "Focus" may have a tough time matching.

Playing at 2,666 locations, "The Lazarus Effect" opened in the fifth place with an estimated 10.6 million dollars, which was on an low end for producer Jason Blum's movies.

After leading the box office for two weeks, "Fifty Shades of Grey" fell 50.9 percent to the fourth place with 10.9 million dollars. The movie, in 17 days, earned 147.8 million dollars in North America and 338.4 million in foreign markets.

"Kingsman: The Secret Service" took the second place for the third weekend. The movie eased 11.75 million dollars, which brings its 17-day total to 85.7 million dollars.

"The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water" took the third place, adding 11.2 million dollars, off 32 percent from last weekend. The movie has earned 140.3 million dollars in total and is on track to wrap up between 160 and 170 million dollars. Endi
