Spanish PM Rajoy denies Spain trying to 'bring down' Greek gov't

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on Sunday denied the accusations by his Greek counterpart Alex Tsipras that Spain and Portugal had formed an "axis against Athens" to "bring down" his government.

Speaking at an election rally for his right wing Popular Party (PP) ahead of the Andalusian regional elections, Rajoy said this was not the case.

"We are not responsible for the frustration which the radical Greek left have generated," he said, adding that Tsipras had "promised the Greeks something they knew they could not fulfil, which has now been demonstrated."

"The radical left wing party has decided that the cause of Greece's problems is the government of Portugal and the Government of Spain," he continued before pointing out that the Spanish and Portuguese governments had "voted exactly the same," as the other EU countries regarding Greece.

Rajoy said that Tsipras blaming other nations for his country's problems was "a trick," he had seen before, which did nothing to resolve problems but made them worse.

"We believe in a Europe that shows solidarity and we are always willing to help nations which form part of the European Union," continued the Spanish Prime Minister who said all nations should, "fulfil their obligations and compromises, because If not it is impossible to construct any political project."
