Afghan lawmaker calls for early release of 30 persons abducted in southern province

Xinhua, March 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Afghan lawmaker Arif Rahmani on Sunday lashed at the government over what he termed as a failure in releasing the 30 passengers abducted by armed militants last Monday in Shahjoi district of the southern Zabul province.

"All the kidnapped persons are ethnic Hazaras and have been kept as hostages in Deh Chopan district of Zabul province," Rahmani said in talks with local media.

Foreign militants backed by Taliban insurgents were behind the abduction of the 30 innocent persons, the lawmaker said, adding the government has to inform the people especially the families of the abductees what steps it has taken to release the abductees from the clutch of their abductors.

Unknown armed people stopped two buses in Shahjoi district of Zabul province last Monday and separated 30 people from ethnic Hazaras from among the commuters and took them to unknown locations.

The Interior Ministry has instructed police in the province to locate and rescue the kidnapped persons in its earliest. Endi
