Britain investigates East Midlands Airport power failure

Xinhua, March 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Britain is investigating a power failure at central England's East Midlands Airport, which left hundreds of passengers stranded on Saturday.

The airport said all flights were suspended due to an electrical power failure on Saturday morning, with some flights being transferred to nearby cities.

"This is as a result of a power failure. If you are due to fly today please contact your airline," the airport tweeted.

The airport's flights resumed at around 16:00 GMT, after power was restored at the airport.

The airport also acknowledged that its power supply had faced a "challenge" with its back-up power generator.

Local fire authorities confirmed that some initial reports of a fire at the airport were proved to be "untrue."

Describing the disruption as "unfortunate," the airport promised to conduct investigations into the events and try to avoid similar disruptions in the future.

East Midlands Airport is an international airport located at Castle Donington in Northwest Leicestershire. Enditem
