Dubai-New York A380 forced back by emergency

Xinhua, February 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

An Emirates Airbus A380 "superjumbo" heading from Dubai to New York turned around shortly after take-off on Thursday due to a medical emergency, local media said.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning. The local daily, The National, quoted an Emirates Airline spokesman as saying the aircraft had safely landed and the passenger had been assisted off the aircraft to receive medical attention.

Social media reported that Emirates flight EK210 circled for about two hours to dump fuel for a safe landing in Dubai.

Fuel dumping is common among non-routine landings and often prompted by onboard emergencies.

For an ideal take-off and landing weight, rules regulate that airplanes must lose fuel before landing if it's forced to turn back soon after take-off, as failure to achieve an ideal landing weight could cause structural damage to the aircraft. Endit
