Philippines, France to further boost relations

Xinhua, February 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III and French President Francois Hollande agreed Thursday to further enhance the relations of the two countries as they witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements on environment and marine resource protection, higher education and research, tourism, and transportation.

The signing of the agreements, taking place on the first day of Hollande's visit here, is expected to significantly enhance the bilateral relations, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

"Towards deepening the engagement between our countries, President Hollande and I engaged in fruitful and meaningful discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation," Aquino said in a joint statement after their meeting in Malacanang, the presidential palace.

Aquino and Hollande also witnessed the launch of the "Manila Call to Action on Climate Change," which takes into account the needs and concerns of the most vulnerable countries.

France is hosting the 21st meeting of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( COP21) in Paris in December 2015.

Hollande arrived on Thursday in Manila for a two-day state visit. On Friday, he will fly to Guiuan town in central Philippine province of Eastern Samar, one of the hardest hit areas of Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the country in November 2013. Endi
