Tokyo shares open higher on gains in U.S. market

Tokyo shares opened slightly higher Thursday following overnight gains in the U.S. stocks market where the Dow Jones Industrial Average hit a fresh closing record.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 64.06 points, or 0.34 percent, from Wednesday to 18,649.26.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 3.57 points, or 0.24 percent, to 1,511. 19. Endi
