UN chief arrives in Paragua on first UN trip in nearly six decades

Xinhua, February 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Wednesday morning arrived in Asuncion, Paraguay, for a two- day visit to the Latin American country, the first by a UN chief in the country in nearly 60 years, a UN spokesman said.

"It is the first visit by a UN secretary-general in that country in 56 years," UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a daily news briefing here.

The secretary-general met with President Horacio Manuel Cartes Jara, with whom he spoke to the press, as well as other senior officials, the spokesman said.

"He will also be meeting UN staff working in the country, and representatives of civil society as well as indigenous groups," Dujarric added. Endite
