Clash kills 5 Taliban in N. Afghanistan

Five Taliban militants were killed as security forces launched cleanup operations in Yamgan district of northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province on Wednesday, deputy to provincial police chief Abdul Qadir Sayad said.

"Units of police launched mop up in parts of Yamgan district early Wednesday morning and so far five Taliban rebels have been killed," Sayad told reporters.

He added that cleanup operations would last till eviction of insurgents from the district.

The security forces during week-long operations in the neighboring Tagab district has killed over two dozen insurgents, security officials said.
