Lithuania continues expanding gas trading with Estonia

Lithuania's state controlled natural gas supply and trading company LITGAS announced on Monday the third agreement in less than a month to provide Estonia with natural gas supplies.
According to the announcement, natural gas will be provided to Estonian electricity production and supply company VKG Energia. First supplies are scheduled to reach the company in March, said LITGAS.
The news follows last week's agreement between LITGAS and Latvijas Gaze, Latvian natural gas transmission, storage, distribution, and sales operator, which ensured the transit of Lithuanian natural gas via pipelines in neighboring Latvia.
"Gas will be transported to VKG Energia based on this agreement," said LITGAS in a statement.
"Having developed the access to the international natural gas market through the LNG terminal, and having liberalized the Latvian market in the future, gas trading among the countries will be even more active," added Dominykas Tuckus, the General Manager of LITGAS.
The company expects to supply Estonia with up to 30 million cubic meters of natural gas this year. The supplies will be provided from the new liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipeda, which started its operations at the end of 2014.
Lithuania, a Baltic country used to fully rely on Russia's gas, is seeking its energy independence. Enditem
