Djiboutian president visits Djibouti's peacekeepers in Somalia

Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh on Sunday visited Djiboutian contingent of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) in Somalia's central town of Beledweyne, an official source has said.

Guelleh who was on a 48-hour visit to Mogadishu, visited the troops in the company of his Somali counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud.

The Djiboutian president first held talks with Beledweyne's local administrators who briefed him on the security situation in the town and their view on the performance of the Djiboutian troops who are currently controlling the town.

Guelleh then headed to the camp of his country's army. He hailed the soldiers for the work they had accomplished and for their sacrifice on the battle-field.

"You have secured your zone and liberated other localities from the yoke of Al Shabaab terrorists. You have equally offered considerable humanitarian assistance to the population within your region and given sufficient training to Somali soldiers and police. Because of this heavy sacrifice, your country and the entire Somali nation are proud of you," he said.

Guelleh encouraged his troops to continue on this path and appealed for more dedication for achievement of their "noble" mission. Endi
