Myanmar government forces had claimed capture of some military bases of the Kokang ethnic army in five engagements over the weekend after air strikes, an official report said on Monday.
Some bases of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army on hills in the vicinity of the 18th mile junction on the Laukkai- Kongyan road have been occupied by the government forces after fighting on Saturday and Sunday, said the report. (Myanmar-Kokang- Military Bases)

TOKYO -- Naruhito, Crown Prince of Japan, marked his 55th birthday on Monday by calling for handing down history correctly ahead of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II later this year, local media reported.
"I have not experienced the war, but it is important to look back to the past humbly and correctly pass down tragic experiences and the history behind Japan to the generations who have no direct knowledge of the war, at a time memories of the war is about to fade," he said at a press conference. DHAKA -- Death toll in Bangladesh's ferry accident in Bangladesh's western Manikganj district on Sunday rose to 65 as rescuers found 24 more bodies inside the hull of the ferry early Monday, a police officer said.
Abul Muktadir, a police officer supervising the rescue operation, told Xinhua Monday morning that the ill-fated ferry, ML Mostafa, was dragged to shore and rescuers found 24 more bodies inside the ferry. Forty-one bodies were recovered late Sunday night. (Bangladesh-Ferry Accident)

SEOUL -- South Korea's Defense Ministry said on Monday that its military will strongly deal with possible provocations from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) when conducting joint annual war games with the United States.

TOKYO -- Two Chinese men under a foreign trainee program were attacked by a group of men with knives late Sunday in Ibaraki Prefecture north of Tokyo, which left one dead and the other injured, the Chinese Embassy confirmed on Monday.
