High-speed training crash for Spanish F1 driver, Alonso

Xinhua, February 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Spanish Formula 1 racing driver Fernando Alonso was involved in a serious crash during the last day of pre-season testing which was being carried out at the Circuit of Catalonia, at Montmelo, just outside of Barcelona on Sunday.

The Spaniard is reported to have hit a wall at around 150 miles an hour as he came out of the third corner of the circuit after his car ran out of control exiting the curve shortly before the lunch break.

He was taken from the crash scene in an ambulance and then airlifted to hospital for tests.

His McLaren team reported that Alonso was "conscious" after the crash, while his advisor Luis Garcia later posted a 'tweet' saying the driver was "OK".

Alonso rejoined the McLaren team, whom he had left in 2007, after ending his contract with Ferrari at the end of last season and hopes that the return to one of his former teams will help him in his aim to lift a third world title. Endi
