Cambodia sees decline in road casualties during Chinese New Year travel

Xinhua, February 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

Road traffic crashes killed 29 people and injured 151 others in Cambodia during Chinese Lunar New Year travel from Wednesday to Saturday, compared with 33 deaths and 197 injuries a year earlier, the police said on Sunday.

"A total of 77 road accidents took place across the country on the occasion," said a police release. "The main causes of the crashes were high-speed, neglect, and drunken driving."

A terrible accident occurred on Saturday in southwestern Kampot province when a car crashed into a motorcycle, leaving four people dead and four others injured.

The Chinese Lunar New Year is not a public holiday in Cambodia, but a majority of the population celebrates the occasion by traveling to their hometowns or going to tourist destinations for leisure. Endi
