Nine people were seriously injured in a fire that broke out early Friday morning at a senior residence building in the eastern Dutch city of Nijmegen, the municipality stated on its website.
Nine people seriously injured were hospitalized along with seven other wounded, and 35 residents were treated on site for minor injuries or inhaling smoke, the municipality said.
It did not give an update yet on the situation of the victims in hospital. No fatalities have been reported yet.
The fire broke out early this morning at 5.30 a.m. (0430 GMT) at a snack bar under the senior residence building and was under control at 9.00 a.m. (0800 GMT). The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No dangerous substances have been measured.
The residents of the senior apartments cannot return to their homes until Monday, because the 71 apartments, with over 100 residents, have to be inspected first on damage and safety. Most of the residents have found shelter with family and some are housed elsewhere by housing corporation Woonzorg. Endi
