EU current account surplus stands at 33.4 bln euros in Q4 2014

The European Union's seasonally adjusted external current account recorded a surplus of 33.4 billion euros (about 37.7 billion U.S. dollars) in the fourth quarter of 2014, up from 15.1 billion euros in the previous quarter, the official statistical office Eurostat said Friday.

The adjusted data also showed the surplus of the current account rose on a year-on-year basis from 29.9 billion euros in the fourth quarter of 2013.

In the fourth quarter of 2014, compared with the previous period, the balance of the goods account moved from deficit of 6.5 billion euros into surplus of 12.4 billion euros, while the surplus of the services account increased from 37.9 billion euros to 40.7 billion euros.
