Blast and gun battle have left six persons including two militants dead and injured eight others in Spin Boldak town of Kandahar province with Kandahar city as its capital, 450 km south of Kabul on Thursday, police said.

"Blast and gun battle claimed six lives including two militants and one police and injured eight others in Spin Boldak district today," police spokesman in the province, Zia Durani told reporters.

Going into details, he added that at first a motorbike bomb went off in Spin Boldak town injuring two civilians and when police rushed to the area, two militants equipped with suicide vests and light arms opened fire on police and police returned fire which lasted for a while during which two militants, three civilians and a police constable had been killed.

During the incident which occurred at 12: 45 p.m. local time and lasted for a while eight more people including three personnel from the national police and five personnel from Border Police Force sustained injuries, the official further said.

The border town of Spin Boldak which connects Kandahar city to Quetta city of Pakistan has been the scene of militancy over the past couple of years. Endi
