Indonesia posts 710 mln USD trade surplus in January

Indonesia registered a trade surplus of 709.4 million U.S. dollars in January, up from 186.8 million U.S. dollars recorded last month, government data has shown.

Export in January fell 8.1 percent on year to 13.3 billion U.S. dollars, while import plunged 15.6 percent on year to 12.6 billion U.S. dollars, the country's trade ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Non-oil and gas surplus amounted to 748.0 million U.S. dollars, while oil and gas deficit narrowed.

Indonesia has been striving to reduce its current account deficit, such as by slashing a huge subsidy on fuels.

But weakening prices of global commodities and a still uncertain global economic outlook have trimmed the country's exports. Endi
