Rwanda, United Arab Emirates seek strong ties

Xinhua, February 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Rwanda and United Arab Emirates (UAE) are seeking ways to bolster relations between the two countries following the visit of Middle East high level officials.

Reem Ebrahim Al Hashimi, minister of State in the Cabinet of the UAE, is in Rwanda for a one-day official visit.

The UAE is working to expand economic and investment cooperation with Rwanda given the country's conducive investment atmosphere and untapped opportunities.

She is accompanied by a delegation of about 20 high-level officials from different UAE institutions who will held talks with Rwandan officials, according to a statement from the Rwandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The two countries seek to develop economic cooperation in various development sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism and energy. The visit marks an important step in the building of a strong partnership between Rwanda and UAE.

"This first visit marks an important step in the building of a strong partnership between the two countries. We enjoy good relations with UAE and this visit is an important milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation," Louise Mushikiwabo, Rwandan minister of foreign affairs told Xinhua Monday.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame visited Dubai to attend the 2nd Africa Global Business Forum last year in October where he met several UAE senior government officials.

Al Hashimi is expected to conclude her visit with a joint press conference with Mushikiwabo, according to the ministry. Endi
