4 soldiers killed in suspected Boko Haram attack in northern Cameroon

At least four Cameroonian soldiers were killed and 10 others were injured in an attack by suspected Nigerian Islamic sect Boko Haram on Monday in Cameroon's Far-North Region, a military source who declined to be named told Xinhua over phone.

"The attack took place around 6 a.m. local time (5 a.m. GMT) at Waza, a town in Far-North Region bordering Nigeria. The fighting is going on," the source said and confirmed the preliminary casualties on the side of Cameroon army are four dead and 10 wounded, but the casualties are not available on the side of the attackers.

The attack by suspected Boko Haram militants took place when the leaders of Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) meet in Cameroon's capital Yaounde on Monday for a regional summit to discuss the issue of effectively fighting against Boko Haram.

ECCAS meeting brings Cameroonian President Paul Biya, Chadian President Idriss Deby, Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Gabonese President Ali Bongo, Congolese President Deniss Sassou Nguesso and CAR provisional president Catherine Samba-Panza together in Yaounde.

Five countries in the region including Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Benin and Niger announced a proposal recently to form a multinational troops of 8,700 to fight against Boko Haram. Endi
