Bahrain says to support Jordan in fight against IS

Xinhua, February 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bahrain said on Sunday it will provide military support for Jordan in its fight against the Islamic State (IS) militant group.

The move comes as part of the Joint Arab Defense Treaty and the kingdom's commitment to supporting the international efforts to eliminate terrorism, the General Command of Bahrain Defence Forces (BDF) said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa met with Jordanian King Abdullah II.

Jordan has been stepping up efforts to deal with terrorism after the IS released a video showing Jordanian pilot Mouath Al Kasaesbeh being burnt alive.

In September, Bahraini fighter jets joined the U.S.-led coalition air strikes in Syria to prevent extremist fighters from expanding throughout the region.

The U.S. coalition comprises the Royal Bahrain Air Force (RBAF) and military forces from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE and Jordan, which was part of an international action plan to counter the IS. Endit
