Chinese Han Tianyu wins 1,500m at World Cup

Han Tianyu lifted his first individual World Cup title Saturday after he won the 1,500 meters at the short track speed skating World Cup in Turkey.

Han clocked two minutes 13.354 seconds for the title while his fellow Chinese Chen Dequan took silver in 2:13.448 in the nine-man field.

Victor An of Russia was third in 2:13.576.

In women's 1,500m, Guo Yishe was the only Chinese skater in the final after Olympic champion Zhou Yang and Liu Yang were penalized in the semifinals.

Guo was unable to shine in the final where Italian Arianna Fontana won in 2:28.590.

Fan Kexin was penalized in the 1,500m after she and South Korean Shim Suk-hee ran into each other. Elise Christie of Britain eventually won the race in 1:31.513.
