Iraqi security forces killed on Friday seven suicide bombers with the Islamic State (IS) militant group who tried to plot against a military base in western Iraq.

A security source told Xinhua that the Iraqi security forces deployed at the Ain al-Asad base in the town of al-Baghdadi, Anbar province, killed seven suicide bombers wearing explosive belts and trying to sneak into it. (Iraq-IS-Death)

DAMASCUS -- At least 20 fighters of the Islamic State (IS) militant group were killed in strikes mounted by an international anti-terror coalition in a northern Syrian city, a monitoring group reported Friday.

The coalition airstrikes targeted the IS positions in the predominantly-Kurdish city of al-Hasakeh, more specifically in its southern countryside, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of activists on ground. (Syria-IS-Strike)

CAIRO -- One police was killed and eight others injured early on Friday in an explosion targeting a patrol in capital Cairo, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

The homemade bomb was planted at the crossroads of the main streets of Gisr al-Suez and Ain Shams in Cairo, the statement said, adding that police officer Mostafa Fouad Shmais died because of serious wounds. (Egypt-Explosion)

ADEN, Yemen -- Unknown gunmen on Friday broke into a prison in Yemen's southeastern province of Shabwa, killing one solider and setting free seven al-Qaida inmates, a government official told Xinhua.

"The central prison in Shabwa province was attacked by a group of gunmen earlier in the day, which left one soldier killed and two others critically injured," the local government official said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Attack) Endit
