Albanian population reaches 2.893 mln on Jan. 1, 2015

The population of Albania on Jan. 1, 2015 numbered 2,893,005, dropping by 2,942 compared to Jan. 1, 2014, Albanian Statistics Institution (INSTAT) stated on Friday.

Among the total population, 1,462,005 are males and 1,431,000 females. The genre proportion of Albanian population is 102.1 males per 100 females. The average age of Albanian population on Jan. 1, 2015 was 35 years.

During 2014 the number of births in Albania was 35,760, with 18,683 males and 17,077 females.

The regions with the low population in the country are Gjirokastra, Kukes and Dibra, with 72,202, 85,461 and 136,476 inhabitants respectively.

Tirana, Durres and Vlora have seen an increase in population. Whereas in the other regions the population has shrunk.

The region with the biggest growth of population is Tirana estimated at 1.61 percent, whereas the region with the highest decrease of population is Gjirokastra at 1.84 percent. Endit
