Nikkei ends slightly lower on stronger yen

Tokyo stocks ended 0.31 percent lower in the morning session of Friday, as a stronger yen weighed down export-related shares.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 55.77 points, from Thursday to 17,923.95. But the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 0.79 point, or 0. 05 percent, to 1,450.18.

Gaining industry sectors included mining, rubber and real estate, while utilities led losers. Endi
