Bomb, grenade found in Tirana

Xinhua, February 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

A bomb was deactivated in Tirana on Thursday, which was placed in a bicycle left at an apartment building in front of a high school.

The police considered this a prevented terrorist act. They were notified by an unidentified person. The explosive was deactivated and the investigation passed to the Court of Serious Crimes.

The bomb was found in a bicycle, which might belong to the person who placed the bombs on Tuesday, while the target remains unknown.

There was more than 1 kg of dynamite, mixed with nails and hunting pellets. The bomb could have caused huge damage among people. The police are searching for any prints of the author on the bike.

In the meantime, a grenade was found and deactivated on Wednesday evening in Tirana. It was placed at the back wheels of the car owned by lawyer Emirion Mema, who was the one to notice it before getting on the car.

The entire area was surrounded by police forces and the police experts managed to deactivate the offensive grenade, which was linked to the wheel disk and would explode at the moment that the car would start moving.

Mema was interrogated by police on possible conflicts he might have and he declared that he was wounded in May 2009 by Edmond Lala and Albert Margjoni.

Meanwhile, another bomb alarm resulted false but managed to block traffic for nearly one hour at 21 Dhjetori crossroads, which is one of the most populated areas in Tirana.

The suspicious package, which turned out to be an empty bag, was found in the middle of a road in Tirana city center, and at first it was though that its might contain explosives.

Police forces blocked the area, while experts verified that the bag was empty. It is still unknown who left the bag there. Endit
