Latvia sees current account deficit widen 31 pct in 2014

Latvia's current account deficit widened by 31 percent year-on-year to 711.16 million euros (about 810 million U.S. dollars) in 2014, the Bank of Latvia reported Thursday.

In December 2014, Latvia's current account ran a deficit of 97.71 million euros in contrast to a 9.7-million-euro deficit in the same month a year ago, according to the balance of payments data released by the Latvian central bank.

The deficit of goods expanded by 69.58 million euros year-on-year to 265.93 million euros and the surplus of services grew by 16.73 million euros to 161.12 million euros in December 2014.

In 2013, Latvia reported a current account deficit of 542.68 million euros. (1 euro = 1.14 U.S. dollars) Endit
