Taiwan to synchronize leadership, legislative elections

Xinhua, February 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

Taiwan's election supervisory authority said Thursday the 2016 leadership and legislative elections will be held on the same day so that arrangements align with public expectations.

Holding the elections on the same day would avoid excessive cost in social resources, reduce political mobilization and prevent unnecessary internal fighting, according to a statement by the election supervisory authority.

The arrangement to synchronize the two polls would be convenient for voters and could increase the turnout with an additional 3.3 million voters, the statement said.

However, the exact timing for the leadership and legislative elections will be decided after further studies. Endi
