Tokyo stocks ends at 7-year high on weaker yen

Tokyo stocks closed 1.85 percent higher on Thursday, with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index hitting a seven-year closing high supported by the yen's depreciation.

The 225-issue Nikkei index rose 327.04 points, from Tuesday to 17,979.72, the highest close since July 2007.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange jumped 21.67 points, or 1.52 percent, to 1, 449.39.

Financial markets in Japan were closed Wednesday for a national holiday.

Major gaining industry sectors included land transport, retail and insurance.

The turnover was 3,160.02 billion yen (about 26.27 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
