War, weapons supplies would be last option for solving Ukraine crisis: Latvian president

War and arms supplies would be the last option that could be used to resolve the Ukraine crisis, Latvian President Andris Berzins believes.

Talking to the press after his weekly meeting with Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma on Wednesday, the president said that as far as weapons supplies to Ukraine were concerned Latvia would "follow the EU's common policy".

Berzins' spokeswoman Liga Krapane told LETA news agency that the Latvian president preferred political solutions to military ones.

"War and weapons are the last solution to resort to," the presidential spokeswoman said.

Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said earlier that many EU member states might change their stance on possible weapons supplies to Ukraine if the Minsk agreement is not implemented, which may leave "us on a rather dangerous situation". Endit
