Vietnam to issue int'l driving licences

Xinhua, February 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vietnam will issue international driving licenses with information in English, French, Russian, Spanish and Vietnamese, specifying the type of vehicle that the holder is allowed to use, local media reported Wednesday.

This type of driving license will be issued in accordance with international standards in the form of a passport, and will be valid in 85 countries and territories which participated in the 1968 International Convention on Road Traffic and the Convention on the Road Signs (Vienna Convention), the VietnamNet Bridge daily quoted an official from the Vietnam Road Administration (VRA) as saying.

VRA has submitted a Circular guiding the issuance of international driving licenses to the Ministry of Transport for approval, which is expected to take effect in the first quarter of this year, said Nguyen Van Huyen, VRA's Director General.

According to VRA, the international driving license, which will be granted to Vietnamese citizens, valid from one to three years, can be used in most European countries and five Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.

Initially, the licence will be issued in capital Hanoi and southern Ho Chi Minh City only, with the issuance fee of 135,000 VND (roughly 6 U.S. dollars). Endi
