Albanian annual rate of CPI increases by 1.3 pct in January

Consumer price index (CPI) of Albania in January reached the value of 118.6 percent, considerate December 2007 as base period, the Albanian Institute of Statistics said on Tuesday, which shows that in January 2015, the annual rate of CPI is 1.3 percent, while the monthly rate is 1.4 percent.

The annual growth rate in January was push up mainly from food and non alcoholic beverages, which contributed by +0.88 points of percentage, while tobacco and alcoholic beverages contributed by +0.17 points of percentage.

In making a simple comparison of prices during this year and those in 2014, the food and non alcoholic beverages group of goods prices had the highest increase, by 3.3 percent.

While comparing prices of January 2014 with January 2015, the highest increase of prices in Albania noticed in the education services group by 11 percent.

CPI in Albania is calculated with a basket of products from December 2007. Weights are based on the results of the Household budges survey carried out during October 2006 to September 2007. December 2007 is considered as the base period (100).

The annual rate of CPI measures the price change between the current month and the same month of the previous year. This measure is responsive to recent changes in price levels but can be influenced by one-off effect in either month.

The monthly rate measures the price change between current month and previous month. The 12-month average rate compares average CPI of the latest 12 month to the average of the previous 12 months. Endit
