Indonesian President signs four pacts on 1st state visit to Philippines

Xinhua, February 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III and his Indonesian counterpart Joko Widodo on Monday signed four agreements in Manila, including agreements on the protection of migrant workers and combating illicit drug trafficking.

The two other deals were the memoranda of understanding for cooperation in the field of technical vocational education and training, and cooperation in education, research and training by the National Defense College and the Lembaga Ketahanan Nasional of Indonesia.

Aquino expressed hope that the Philippine relations with Indonesia would further be bolstered under the leadership of Widodo, who is on a two-day introductory state visit in Manila.

"More than 65 years since the formal establishment of our bilateral ties, I believe we can continue to look to the future with optimism, and that our relations will be further strengthened during President Widodo's administration," Aquino said in a joint press statement in Malacanang, the presidential palace.

Widodo assumed the presidency on October 20 last year.

The Indonesian president invited Aquino to attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asia-Africa Conference that will be held in Jakarta and Bandung from April 22 to 24, as well as the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2015 that will be held in Bali. Endi
