9 militants killed in Afghan raids within day: gov't

Xinhua, February 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Up to nine militants have been killed during a series of cleanup operations launched by Afghan security forces since early Sunday, said the country's Interior Ministry on Monday.

"In past 24 hours, Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) conducted several anti-terrorism operations in Nangarhar, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Ghazni and Paktika provinces. As a result, nine armed Taliban members were killed, four wounded and two others were arrested by the ANSF," the ministry said in a statement.

The ANSF also found and seized weapons, the statement said, without adding if there were any casualties on the side of security forces.

The ANSF found and defused 26 different types of improvised explosive devices and roadside bombs recently planted by the militants within the same period, according to the statement.

The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments. Endi
