Turkey says G20 set to overcome social unrests

Xinhua, February 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

G20 has the strength to overcome not only the economic crisis but also the social and political crisis in the world, Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said here on Sunday.

At the 7th annual meeting of the International Institute of Finance, Davutoglu said that the world has been passing through a turbulent period which is dominated by the unrests in the Middle East, the crisis in Ukraine and the terror threat of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

"While securing the world economic growth, G20 also has the power to fight against terrorism and overcome the social unrests in the world," he said.

Davutoglu pointed out that autocracy and terror is not the faith of the Middle East, and the developed countries worldwide have the responsibility to support the regional states to establish democracy.

"When the leaders of G20 countries meet at the table, they have the potential to act as a common body," he said, adding that G20 has the capacity to overcome the economic crises without resulting in social and political crises as it was in the case in 2008.

The 2008 world global economic crisis has given way to social and political unrests spreading in the world. The Islamophobia, racism and radicalism have followed an upward tendencies during that period.

Turkey's G20 presidency should be considered as a chance for the world, Davutoglu said, stressing that Turkey is ready to share its experiences with the world as it is located at the center of the crisis.

The G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting will be held on Monday, in which ministers are expected to confirm the growth strategies in 2015. Endit
