Preparations in full swing for African mining conference

Xinhua, February 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Preparations are in full swing for the annual Investing in African Mining Indaba (conference) which will bring over 7,000 delegates from across Africa and the world, organizers said on Sunday.

The event, scheduled for February 9-12, is dedicated to the capitalisation and development of mining interests in Africa, said Burson-Marsteller Africa, public relations agency of the African Mining Indaba.

The indaba is currently the world's largest mining investment event and Africa's largest mining event. For two decades, the annual Mining Indaba has served as the pathway for foreign investments into Africa's mining value chain -- opportunities ranging from small diamond deposits to mega coal projects.

As the host country, South Africa wants to use the conference to assure investors about the stability of the South African mining industry, said Mahlodi Muofhe, special advisor to Mineral Resources Minister Ngoako Ramatlhodi.

Ramatlhodi will deliver a keynote address on Tuesday morning. Other major speakers include Tony Blair, former British prime minister, Chris Griffith, CEO of Anglo American Platinum Limited and Alan Davies, Chief Executive of Diamonds and Minerals, Rio Tinto.

Besides the South African government, 18 African countries, including Angola, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria as well as seven non-African countries will have official government representation at the Indaba. Endi
