Kenya donates 1 mln USD to flood victims in Malawi

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Kenyan government said on Friday that it has donated 1 million U.S. dollars to Malawi for displaced people in a devastating flood that has lasted for weeks.

"We commiserate with the people of Malawi following the unexpected flooding that has killed many and rendered thousand others homeless," said Karanja Kibicho, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs.

The official said the money has been transmitted to Malawian Embassy in Nairobi.

Although humanitarian efforts are already underway, continuing rain is making rescue operations hard in Malawi, he said.

More than 270 people have been killed and 300,000 displaced by torrential rain and flooding that hit Malawi. Endi
