Algeria condemns execution of Jordanian pilot

Xinhua, February 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Algeria on Thursday strongly condemned the killing of Jordanian pilot by the Islamic State (IS), saying it was a heinous and barbaric crime.

Spokesman for the Algerian Foreign Ministry Abdelaziz Benali Cherif said in a statement that "This heinous crime committed by the self-styled Islamic State organization against the Jordanian pilot Muadh al-Kasasbeh is an outrageously terrorist act that we strongly condemn, as we condemn its perpetrators and all those standing behind them."

"In these painful circumstances, Algeria expresses its deepest compassion with the brotherly people and government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and extends condolences to the family of the deceased," he added.

Benali Cherif further urged the international community to "form a united front to fight against this abominable scourge that threatens peace and security, not only in Arab countries, but also in the whole world."

The Jordanian pilot, who was captured on Dec. 24 by the Islamic State, was burnt to death after failure of negotiations between the Jordanian authorities and the terrorist organisation over prisoner swap deal.

The Jordanian authorities responded to this act by executing two IS-linked Iraqi prisoners. Endit
