Freed Australian journalist Peter Greste said on Thursday he will not quit his career as a foreign correspondent and will not rest until his two colleagues are released from an Egyptian prison.
Greste, an Al Jazeera journalist, was released from prison in Egypt on Monday having spent 400 days behind bars on charges of defaming the country and aiding banned Islamists.
Despite pleas from his mother, Lois, to think of an alternate career, Greste said: "I'm a correspondent, that's what I do."
His release came following an international outcry, with Greste and two other journalists, Canadian Mohamed Fahmy and Egyptian Baher Mohamed, retaining their innocence as claims were made that their trial was politically motivated.
After returning to Australia upon his release, Greste became emotional as he said "we'll see them out" in relation to Fahmy and Mohamed.
Greste arrived in Australia at around 1.00 a.m. Thursday morning.
"We are really thrilled that he's back home," Abbott told reporters in Melbourne on Thursday, adding that he also wants to see Greste's colleagues back in their homes as well. Endi
