Cavendish wins first stage at Dubai Tour cycling race

British cyclist Mark Cavendish from the Isle of Man team won the first stage here on wednesday in the 145-kilometer opening track of the four-day Dubai Tour.

Cavendish snatched the blue jersey by scoring a time of three hours 24.50 minutes, collecting 20 points. He beat Italian cyclist Andrea Guardini who rides for the Kazakh team Astana Pro and arrived second at the finishing line, local daily Gulf news reported.

Earlier in the day, Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum inspected the track and he was presented at the finishing line near the union house in the district of Jumeirah.

Dubai Tour is a 663-km international professional cycling race taking place over four stages between February 4 to 7. Organized by the Dubai Sports Council. A total of 16 teams take part in the tour.

Dubai Tour 2015 kicked off from the Dubai International Marine Club and headed to the southwest Jebal Ali and then crossed the area where Expo 2020 will be held, according to state news agency WAM. Endi
