Vietnam sees highest number of operational businesses since 2011

Vietnam saw the highest number of business in operation since 2011 with 401,224 businesses as of Dec. 31, 2014, according to a report by General Statistics Office (GSO) on Wednesday.
The figure in 2011 were 324,691 businesses, while that of 2012 and 2013 were 346,777 and 368,844, respectively, said the report on basic indicators of Vietnamese businesses as of Dec. 31, 2014 by GSO.
The report said that among the total number of operational businesses in 2014, there were 3,109 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) , 11,327 foreign-invested companies and 386,788 private ones.
The country saw decreases in the number of SOEs (3,265 SOEs in 2011, 3,239 in 2012 and 3,177 in 2013) following a scheme by the government on SOE equitization in recent years, while witnessing increases in number of foreign-invested and private ones, said the report.
As of Dec. 31, 2014, more than 1.404 million people worked at SOEs, over 3.387 million people at foreign-invested companies while the private sector had over 7.036 million staff.
The SOE sector had a capital of over 4,873 trillion Vietnamese dong (228.2 billion U.S. dollars), while the respective figures of foreign-invested and private sectors were 5,416 trillion Vietnamese dong (253.7 billion U.S. dollars) and 11,722 trillion Vietnamese dong (549.1 billion U.S. dollars).
In 2014, revenue of SOE sector reached over 3,423 trillion Vietnamese dong (160.3 billion U.S. dollars), foreign-invested businesses were over 3,834 trillion Vietnamese dong (179.6 billion U.S. dollars) and private ones over 7,162 trillion Vietnamese dong (335.5 billion U.S. dollars).
In 2014, Vietnam witnessed an economic growth rate of 5.98 percent, higher than the rate of 5.42 percent in 2013 and 5.25 percent in 2012, showing positive signals of the economic development, said the office. Endi
